India creates jobs .... instead of losing them to AI.

Watching Race Across the World a while back, and this mother & son who were travelling through that beautiful country worked on a salt farm for a day for their board & lodging. Their job was to tread the salt down. They walked up and down this salt field all day, treading the salt into the watery mud.

They asked, 'Can't you get machines to do this?'

The answer they were given by the salt farmer, 'Machinery destroys labour. People need jobs.

It reminded me of the first time we went to India. We'd hired a driver for ten days, and he picked us up at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. Our driver went off to pay the parking ticket but was stopped on the way back by a bloke who wanted to check the ticket. Why? If he hasn't paid, the barrier won't open.

Driving to the exit, he was stopped again, and his ticket checked again. And at the barrier-control there was a 3rd bloke leaning on the machine. He took our driver's ticket, inspected it, and then put it in the machine when our driver could easily have done that himself.

Now you might say that's pointless. And from a Westerners point of view, I guess it is. But they're creating jobs, you see. And that's the difference.

In 40 years’ time, when AI has completely ruined the Western world, and there are absolutely no jobs for anyone, India will be so far ahead of us. They're creating a society where people have jobs, where people have the dignity to say, 'I'm employed', and where people have a purpose in life.

Just a thought ....
