BURNING WITCHES

Witches were burned at the stake for a number of reasons, sometimes simply for religious heresy - and there's Christianity for you, don't ever believe it's just Islam that has a history of Evil - but mainly because they were practitioners of folk medicine (folk magic) or because it was believed fire could cleanse the Witch of their association with spirits, or even just personal rivalries and disputes ....
.... kind of like someone accusing you of being a racist or a fascist or a far-right thug today, simply because they have no answer to your argument.
But it's certainly strange that throughout history, through children's fairy tales that contain magical elements, we've been taught to fear the actual Witch rather than the evil people who burned them or drowned them.
Interesting how the perspective changes with the point of view, isn't it?
But that was 400 / 500 years ago, and nobody burns Witches or anyone else at the Stake nowadays ..... except, of course, that the principle - the moral standards if you like - still survive to this day when you consider that exposing evil is considered by the government to be actually worse than the evil itself.
